Diagnosis and treatment options of Alzheimer

Alzheimer’s disease is a disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions. As days go by, we have more information about Alzheimer’s disease and more medicines are started to be used for treatment. Studies show that great steps are taken in the treatment of this disease. Patients who show symptoms of Alzheimer must be evaluated by neurologists and psychiatrists. As in many diseases, brain film must be taken and blood tests must be done in order to make an exact diagnosis. It is important to notice that every forgetfulness is not a symptom of this disease.

Unfortunately, Alzheimer’s disease has no definitive treatment. It cannot be completely cured. First of all, it is necessary to know early diagnosis has great importance in the treatment of this disease.  Researches show that people who have early start Alzheimer’s disease are in better condition than those who started months later. Despite the fact that it is not fully treated, the aim of treatment is to slow the progression of the disease, to reduce the symptoms, and to improve the quality of life of the patient. In addition, various medications like antidepressants are used to deal with emerging psychological problems during the treatment period.

The support of the family is really important to have good results from the treatment. It has been really hard for the people seeing their loved ones forgetting about them. The person you love may forget the names of frequently used objects. It will be useless to condemn him. Your main responsibility as the family of the people having Alzheimer’s disease is showing him love and giving emotional support. It will be helpful to find interesting activities and improve social contact with savvy people. You must create a safe environment at home. Be aware of the fact that in the advanced level of the disease, you will need to help him/her in cleaning, toiletries and feeding. Thus, it will be helpful to make changes at home in order to protect him/her. Bars for hanging in the bathroom and locks for the external door may be required.
