An average of 5 liters of beer per person is consumed at the Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany. In the largest metal music festival of the world, the participants drink so much beer that the festival management decided to pipe the beer to the event area this year.
The 7-kilometer pipeline, which is under construction for the Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany in August, will carry 400,000 liters of beer underground. An average of 5,1 liters of beer per person is consumed in the festival. The Wacken Open Air Festival takes place for three days on August and average 75,000 music lovers participate to the festival. The pipeline will flow at a rate equivalent to 6 glasses of beer per second.
The town of Wacken, which gives its name to the festival, takes place in with northern Germany. It is an ordinary small town with its 1800 1800 inhabitants. The inhabitants of this town have three extraordinary days with concerts of the leading metal bands of the world. Another objective in the construction of the beer pipeline is that the agricultural land of Wacken, located in a rural area, will not be damaged by beer trucks.
It is stated on the festival’s website that they had carried beer barrels all the way through the fields until this year and now they would protect the land with a new pipeline of beer. The pipeline which is laid under 80 centimeters of the earth, will not prevent agricultural activity in the rest of the year.
The Wacken Open Air Festival, which takes place from August 3 to 5, will host around 150 metal music groups. Megadeth, Alice Cooper, Amon Amarth, Volbeat, Marilyn Manson, Accept, Status Quo are just some of the participant groups.
