The sound format MP3, which has been associated with music since its debut, has officially been ‘killed’ by its creators due to the lack of demand.
Nowadays, undoubtedly there are many audio formats. Among these formats, the revolutionary audio format MP3, which has been used since the 90’s, has always been different and special. However, it seems that the end of the popular audio format MP3 is closer.
According to the news of shiftdelete.com, an announcement was made by the German Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits which is the owner of the audio format, saying that the patent license rights for MP3 have expired and they will make no renewal application.
Namely, with this statement, MP3 was officially signed as a death sentence. According to the statement made by the institute officials, interest and demand for MP3 has been reduced due to the emergence of better quality audio formats. Thus, they say the renewal of patent licenses has no meaning.
Also, according to the statement made by the officials of the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits, the Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) format, which offers a high quality audio experience at lower bit rates than MP3, is going to become the most popular audio format sooner.
