The preparations for the new iPhone, which will be released in September, have provided a new name for the billionaires list. Morris Chang, Chairman of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC) which is the the world’s largest chip producer, entered the billionaires class by the help of Apple, which plans to release the new model iPhone in September.
A 27 percent increase in the value of a Taiwan-based company over the past year has made Morris Chang’s fortune worth 1 billion dollars, which is 0.5 percent of the company. TSMC, which has a market value of 183 billion dollars, became the most valuable company of the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
Morris Chang, 86, founded TSMC in 1987 with the support of the Taiwan government. Today the country’s National Development Fund is the biggest shareholder of the company with 6.4 percent share.
