Viking Technology broke record in SSD drives

The capacities of server-oriented SSD products continue to break records. Viking Technology announced its highest-capacity 3.5-inch SAS SSD drive in this area.

It is not yet possible to see high-capacity SSD drives for the users. On the institutional side, we see that new records are broken in terms of capacity. Viking Technology declared that they reached the highest-capacity of SAS SSD drives in 3.5-inch are. Capacity stands out the UHC-Silo SSD, which uses MLC NAND plane memory cells bearing the SK Hynix signature, is available in two versions, 25TB and 50TB. Using a dual port SAS 2.x 6Gbps interface is a little slower than NVMe’s, however it can appeal to those who want to balance performance and capacity.

4K random input output performance is 15 000 IOPS for writing, 60 000 IOPS for reading, 500 MB / s for continuous reading, and 350 MB / s for continuous writing. The driver consumes 10W at standby and 16W at heavy load. Writing 1 time a day and 5 years life is available.

UHC-Silo SSD, which can save up to 80 percent on cooling and storage costs compared to competitive disk drives, can reach up to 5 PetaBytes of storage space on the server shelf. The integrated heat monitoring sensor also allows data recovery from sector and block errors. The price of the driver has not yet been announced.
